Have you guys ever wondered why your digital pictures looked too yellow (like the picture below) or blue or orange ?? When I forget to white balance …I wonder too!!

That’s because digital cameras are not as superior as our eyes at judging what is white under different light sources. We need to train the camera and perform a “White Balance” every time the light source changes. White balance is the process of removing unrealistic color casts, so that objects which appear white in person are rendered white in your photo.

How to White Balance? Just follow these 4 steps to get realistic colors in your pictures.

1. Make sure you have Custom White Balance feature in your camera. Most new digital SLR cameras (and some point and shoot ones) have that function. Under White Balance, you should see an icon like this >   Select it.
2. Buy yourself an inexpensive gray card. It is exactly what it is – a gray card…you can get one from the art supplies store. If you have White Out at home, apply a little bit to make a small white dot in the middle of the gray card. 
3. Go to the area that you will be taking pictures from, adjust settings accordingly and take a picture of the gray card focusing on the white dot. The white dot helps the camera focus easily.
4. Go to Menu > White Balance > Custom > Select the gray card picture that you just took…press OK

You are all set. Now try taking the picture under the same light conditions and the colors will be amazingly realistic like the picture below.
