So this is the situation…I have a beautiful canvas ordered for a client and it was getting shipped FedEx Next Day for a reason. I was unfortunately a couple hours away from Chicago and was certainly going to miss the delivery. We had flurries the day before and heavy rain couple days prior. In a nut shell, I was very worried and felt helpless. Absolutely, there was no one to accept delivery. I picked up the phone and explained the situation to FedEx. The lady I spoke to was very polite but the answer was “no” to all my questions/requests. “Sir, the driver will leave the package outside because the shipper has not requested signature upon delivery.” Those who know me personally know that I am very, very optimistic and always see the glass full even if it were half empty. I just pour it into a smaller glass.

Just when I was worrying about possible rain, snow, wind carrying the canvas away, someone stealing it etc…a question came to my mind “Why am I thinking negative?”. The Aha moment. Right from that second, I told myself, the canvas will be fine and I will have it safely in my hands that evening. It was blind faith in the positive direction. I kid you not – I got a call on my cell phone. The voice said “You know you have a FedEx delivery today right?”  and I said “Yes. Hi..In fact I was struggling to find out how I am going to accept delivery. I am about an hour and half away..Is there any way you can deliver around 6 PM?”. He said “I have 6 more stops and it will not take me 1.5 hours.” “Don’t worry Sir, I will make sure it is in a secure place. I know that it is not supposed to rain or snow tonight based on the weather report I have. In fact, I will have you on the phone and place it under this (a secure location).”

While he was walking to the secure location with me on the phone I told him that in the past 11 years I have never had a FedEx …mm…eh (I didn’t want to call him driver and he filled in “Driver …Sir”) …yes..FedEx driver call me. He mentioned that it was not usual for him to call the customer but he “felt” like. I asked him his name but even though he said it I quite didn’t catch it. I thanked him and requested him to say hey next time.

Any of you reading this might think of the call as usual and customary. May be you get these calls all the time and is an ordinary event. But to me, given the circumstances/options (lack of) it was an extraordinary call/experience. I was thrilled and refreshed thinking about what had just happened.

I promptly saved his number as G-O-D! From my conversation, I am guessing that this God was African-American.

Talking about Gods, check out one of them below..colorless (not literally ofcourse) – flawless – precious

This mom told me as we were wrapping up the session that we need to have more “chocolate” babies on our website. I listen to my clients and will update my website this weekend icon smile Chicago North Side Photographer | African American Baby Pictures
